The Broadway League supports a year-round internship program with positions available for the fall, spring, and summer. All internships are part-time and range from 10-24 hours per week in the office. Hours are flexible. Interns gain valuable experience by working closely with League staff members and, when possible, attend meetings, seminars, and conferences. Interns are paid minimum wage on an hourly basis. The Broadway League encourages diverse internship candidates.

When are The Broadway League internships offered?

• Fall (Approximately September – December)
• Spring (Approximately January – May)
• Summer (Approximately June – August)

Who is eligible?

Recently graduated high school students, undergraduate students, graduate students, and those who have completed a degree are eligible to apply.

Can international students apply?

We only accept international candidates who are currently attending accredited US colleges or universities.

In what areas are internships offered?

• Digital Content: 12 hours/week

The Digital Department manages the League’s social networking sites. The Digital Content Intern will assist with conception, research and execution for video and graphic content, attend strategy meetings and help prepare for and cover various Broadway League events.

• Education/Audience Engagement: 12-24 hours/week

The Audience Engagement Department creates and supports Broadway industry education and community engagement programs designed to ensure an audience for live theatre in the future. Interns help coordinate meetings and programming for initiatives such as The Jimmy Awards^®, Broadway Bridges^™, and Family First Nights^®, manage databases, organize materials for the department on a daily basis, and draft correspondence.

• Government Relations (Offered in the Spring Only): 10 hours/week

The Government Relations Department manages legislation, policy, and advocacy for Broadway and live theatre locally and across the country. Interns help research lawmakers in key member market and assemble documents and decks for presentations. In addition, interns assist in creating glance sheets for relevant issues and legislation related to the Arts/Broadway.

Are internships at The Broadway League paid?

Yes, interns are paid New York State minimum wage, currently $15.00 per hour. Course credit is also available for those interested.

How do I know which internship positions I am qualified for?

Basic qualifications for all internship areas include:

• An earnest interest in the administrative and/or business sides of the theatre industry
• Attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced office environment
• Excellent verbal and writing skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to assist with organizing and planning various meetings and events

Successful candidates generally have interest as well as prior work, internship, or academic experience in one or more of the following areas for each specific department:

• Digital: Social media, analytics, technology
• Education/Audience Engagement: Community outreach, educational programming
• Government Relations: Current events, legislation, knowledge of policy surrounding the arts

Please note, The Broadway League does not offer internships in performance or creative roles such as acting, casting, directing, or theatrical design. If you only have experience in these areas, you may still apply for an internship if you have an interest in learning more about performing arts administrative roles such as producing, management, marketing, public relations, audience engagement, etc. In your cover letter, be sure to convey how your current knowledge and skill set will assist you as an intern with The Broadway League.

If I am not selected for an internship with The Broadway League, may I apply again in the future?

Yes, you may apply again for any future semester. The League will also distribute resumes of internship candidates to a database of over 50 New York City offices of producers, general managers, marketing companies, press/media relations and booking agents, upon request.

What is the High School Broadway Shadowing Program?

The High School Broadway Shadowing Program is a separate program from The Broadway League Internship Program. The program, in partnership with the New York City Department of Education, aims to engage NYC public high school students from diverse backgrounds by introducing them to non-performance career opportunities in the theatre, including, but not limited to: general management, press, marketing, producing, and technical supervision.  This five-day shadowing opportunity allows participants to view occupations in the theatre industry as viable career paths that they may pursue in college. Students are nominated by teachers through a Department of Education portal for consideration to participate in the High School Broadway Shadowing Program.

How do I apply to The Broadway League Internship Program?

Please submit the following materials as PDF files to Amanda Ogorzalek, Manager of Audience Engagement, at internships@broadway.org. Include your name and the semester you are applying for in the subject line of your email. (Ex. Jane Smith - Internship Application for Summer 2019)

2. Professional resume

If you are interested in being considered for multiple departments, please only submit one cover letter and one resume detailing all relevant experience for each area.

Please do not submit headshots or acting resumes.

When are applications due for each semester?

• Summer Internship applications are accepted from January 1 to March 1
• Fall Internship applications are accepted from June 1 to August 1
• Spring Internship applications are accepted from September 1 to November 1
